Robots Cannot Dream For Us is a 6-page comic about my views on AI-generated art and the importance of loving the process.  As an artist, I’ve always had a strong, knee-jerk reaction against the onset of genAI in the creative industry, so I took the chance to write a sober reflection of why I dislike genAI, and in turn, what making art truly means to me.

Inspired by editorial cartoons from publications like the New Yorker, this comic is traditionally illustrated and hand-lettered with dip pen and drawing ink, and is a love letter to the hand-drawn comics that formed an important part of my upbringing as an artist. This comic is ultimately a dedication to my love of human-made art and storytelling, and challenges the belief that technology can replace it.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

I acknowledge the Dharug and Gundungurra People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live, work and play, and pay my respects to Elders past and present. I honour First Nations People as the first artists, designers and storytellers, who have cultivated art, culture and storytelling across this continent since time immemorial. I recognise that sovereignty was never ceded, and this always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
